CHICAGO, IL – The ARCO gas station in West Rogers Park is celebrating after selling a $1 million Lotto ticket, coming just days after another customer won $10,000 on a scratch-off ticket. The store, located at 2758 W. Peterson Ave., is becoming known for its lucky streak.

Jackpaul Singh, the owner of the ARCO station, expressed his astonishment at the back-to-back wins. “It’s either good karma or luck, but either way, we’re thrilled to see our customers win big,” Singh said. The $1 million prize was clinched by a Lotto Million 1 ticket matching the numbers 1, 8, 12, 16, 28, and 49 in the July 6 drawing.

Singh, who grew up in the neighborhood and purchased the gas station a few years ago, is eager to meet the newest millionaire among his customers. “I’m curious to know who it is. I hope they come in to celebrate with us,” he added.

This year, the Illinois Lottery has already created nine millionaires among its Lotto players, with over 37,000 winning tickets sold for the July 6 drawing alone. Singh’s store continues to be a beacon for hopefuls in a community he describes as diverse, family-oriented, and supportive.

New Jersey Senate Committee Approves Fire Sprinkler Requirements for Townhouses

The Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee has reported favorably on Senate Bill No. 3342, which introduces critical amendments to the fire safety regulations for new townhouses in New Jersey. Initially mandated by P.L.2023, c.265, passed in January 2024, the law required automatic fire sprinkler systems in new townhouses whose construction permits were incomplete as of August 1, 2024. The new bill extends this deadline, offering exemptions and adjustments to the initial requirements.

Specifically, Senate Bill No. 3342 extends the deadline for the installation of automatic fire sprinkler systems in townhouses to the first day of the 13th month following the enactment of the original statute, moving the date from August 2024 to January 2025. This amendment provides developers additional time to comply with the new safety standards.

Additionally, the bill exempts townhouses that fall under the one-and two-family dwelling subcode from the sprinkler system requirement if their permit applications were submitted before the bill's enactment. This modification aims to prevent retroactive application of the rules to projects already underway.

The bill also adjusts the timeline for the Commissioner of Community Affairs to adopt the necessary rules and regulations, moving the deadline from June 1, 2024, to the first day of the 12th month post-enactment. This change allows more time for the adoption of guidelines that align with the International Residential Code on sprinkler installations.

These legislative adjustments seek to balance safety concerns with practical implementation issues faced by developers and regulatory bodies.
