Motorsport News|09/09/21A SHOT IN THE ARM FOR F1Hats of to Max Verstappen. On Sunday, he delivered his fifth win in seven races to ease his way to the top of the race for this year’s Formula 1 silverware, and he did it under the most intense scrutiny last weekend. It wasn’t only Lewis Hamilton piling on the pressure, either. While the Mercedes man kept the Red Bull honest throughout the 72 laps in the sand dunes, it was the sea of orange flags that meant the spotlight was turned up to its brightest. Verstappen had the hopes of a nation resting on his shoulders, and performed manfully. One of the most impressive aspects of last weekend was not the performance of the pretender to the throne. No, it was the sweeps of Zandvoort, which hadn’t hosted a World championship…2 min

Motorsport News|09/09/21PERPETUATING WORLD RALLYING’S GREEK MYTHThe World Rally Championship hasn’t been the same since June 2, 2013, when the Acropolis Rally last counted as a round of the WRC.Plenty of new or returning events have helped to fill the calendar since then – the likes of Chile, Estonia, Corsica, Croatia, Turkey, Ypres, even Monza – but none have matched theAcropolis for its challenge and sense of adventure.Throughout its WRC tenure, punishingly rough roads, brutal temperatures and plumes of dust were a constant and the unpredictability due to the relatively high speeds meant there was never a dull moment.Routes were tweaked year after year while host venues often changed – from the Olympic Stadium or a former military air base inAthens to a casino in Loutraki via a trotting track in Markopoulo.Legends such as Marcus Gronholm,…8 min
